기도의 몸부림

많은 영혼을 구원했던, 믿음의 선배들을 자서전에서 만나게 된다.
그들은 은밀히 몇 시간동안 기도했다.
여기서 이런 의문이 생긴다.
우리가 그들처럼 하지 않고도 동일한 결과를 얻을 수 있을까?
그렇다면, 더 나은 방법을 발견하게 되었음을 세상에 증명하자.
그러나, 그렇지 않다면,
믿음과 인내로 약속을 얻어 냈던 그들을 주님의 이름으로 따르기로 하자.
그들은 죄인들이 구원을 얻도록 주님 앞에서 울었고 기도했고 몸부림쳤다.
주님의 말씀의 검(劍)에 완전히 압도되기 전까지는 쉬려고 하지 않았다.
이것이 그들의 능력의 비결이었다.
상황이 개선되지 않고 아무 일도 생기지 않을 때면,
그들은 주님께서 성령을 부으셔서 죄인들이 돌아올 때까지 기도로 씨름했던 것이다.

We read in the biographies of our forefathers,
who were most successful in winning souls,
that they prayed for hours in private.
The question therefore arises,
can we get the same results without following their example?
If we can, then let us prove to the world that we have found a better way;
but if not, then in God's name let us begin to follow those who through faith and patience obtained the promise.
Our forefathers wept and prayed and agonized before the Lord for sinners to be saved, and would not rest until they were slain by the Sword of the Word of God.
